Grand Prairie
Tony Shotwell received two key endorsements today in his bid for re-election to City Council District 5.
First, he was endorsed by the Grand Prairie Police Association, despite his opponent having been a longtime officer and former police chief. “This is a huge endorsement for me”, Tony said. “I have supported all public safety areas of our city for my entire tenure on the council, and this endorsement, along with the Firefighter’s endorsement, only renews that commitment.”
“We think the we are moving in the right direction, as a city and as a department, and Tony Shotwell is the best choice for keeping that forward momentum going” commented J.J. Wallis, president of the police association, when informing Shotwell of the endorsement.
“I believe in the changes and new ideas being brought forward by Chief Steve Dye, and support his initiatives, especially the new concept of neighborhood involvement of the beat officers getting to know the residents and the neighborhoods, which is something that has a great potential upside to it”, Tony said, “I look forward to working with the officers in district 5, and will do all I can to help them succeed”
Tony Shotwell was also endorsed by the Nor-Tex Board of Realtors today, after interviewing with them last week. Mr. Shotwell’s opponent chose to skip this chance to debate the issues face-to-face and did not attend this forum. Tony commented, “Once again, I am proud to be endorsed by the local Realtor’s Board, these are professionals who are out there on a daily basis selling the good qualities of Grand Prairie, and I am humbled they consider my contributions to the city worthy of this endorsement.” Mr. Shotwell has initiated many infrastructure improvements to district 5, increasing the curb appeal of neighborhoods as diverse as Burbank Gardens to Saddle Hills. When Tony Shotwell was a rookie councilman he insisted on street/sidewalk/curb construction on all of the streets from Small Street north to Tarrant Road, stating “How can a neighborhood have curb appeal when there are no curbs at all?”
KUDOS again, Tony. This is a BIG DEAL!
First you get endorsed by the Firefighters, now by our Grand Prairie Police Officers, even though your opponent used to be a police officer. That is a real testament to your ability. I am truly glad that our home is now in district 5, and we are both positive that you will do a great job representing us.
If Grand Prairie’s Public Safety people are behind you, we are too!
